Modern crowns can be made from porcelain, porcelain fused to metal or full gold. In order to maintain a natural look and feel we suggest porcelain, as it can be matched to the shade of your other teeth. This allows your teeth to look similar in color to each other. Sometime gold will be recommended because of the malleable nature of gold, making it a better option for certain areas of your mouth.
At our Brighton Colorado location we can make your crown in two visits. First things first a crown needs to be made. Here we re-shape your tooth, don't worry, you will be given a local anesthetic so you do not experience any discomfort. After the tooth is appropriately shaped, impressions are taken and sent out to make the crown. The creation can take a few weeks. In the mean time, a temporary crown will be placed to protect the tooth. Once the crown is created we call you in and install the crown. Rarely does the tooth need to be numb when we are installing the crown. We will make sure you like the color and fit of the new crown, making adjustments if we need, prior to permanently cementing the crown in place. Occasionally, it may take some getting use to before the permanent crown feels normal in your mouth; however, after a little time, the crown should look, function and feel like a regular tooth.
