You may have noticed over time your teeth begin to weaken and become susceptible to problems such as decay, crack and discoloration. You may even have issues with grinding that speed up the weakening process. If you feel your smile isn't what it once was, crowns can help you recover your smile. In many cases if a tooth has a large cavity, seems weakened or cracked a crown may be necessary to protect the tooth from any additional problems that may occur. When more serious issues are present a filling or bonding will not be sufficient. At Poulson Family Dental located in Brighton, Colorado we can help you with your crown needs.
Modern crowns can be made from porcelain, porcelain fused to metal or full gold. In order to maintain a natural look and feel we suggest porcelain, as it can be matched to the shade of your other teeth. This allows your teeth to look similar in color to each other. Sometime gold will be recommended because of the malleable nature of gold, making it a better option for certain areas of your mouth.
At our Brighton Colorado location we can make your crown in two visits. First things first a crown needs to be made. Here we re-shape your tooth, don't worry, you will be given a local anesthetic so you do not experience any discomfort. After the tooth is appropriately shaped, impressions are taken and sent out to make the crown. The creation can take a few weeks. In the mean time, a temporary crown will be placed to protect the tooth. Once the crown is created we call you in and install the crown. Rarely does the tooth need to be numb when we are installing the crown. We will make sure you like the color and fit of the new crown, making adjustments if we need, prior to permanently cementing the crown in place. Occasionally, it may take some getting use to before the permanent crown feels normal in your mouth; however, after a little time, the crown should look, function and feel like a regular tooth. If you have any questions about your crown after your procedure, be sure to talk to Dr. Poulson or his team at Poulson Family Dental.
The best part is, when you look in the mirror you will see your same smile, smiling back at you. If you think a crown is your solution please call or visit our Brighton, CO location.
