Implant Retained Dentures

Main Content

An alternative to removable dentures are dentures held in place with dental implants. This technology provides a great improvement from traditional removable dentures. The process uses small titanium posts implanted into your jaw bone. Once secured the implants provide stability for the denture.  The miniature titanium implants act like the roots of your teeth.

Two options for Implant and Dentures

  1. Implant Retained Dentures are fixed to the implants providing a confident system which takes away the ability to remove your dentures.  This options is permanently screwed to the implants and provides the most secure and stable denture option.
  2. Implant Supported Dentures are a ball-and-socket or snap-button arrangement.  Normally the head of the implant is ball-shaped, and the retaining fixture in the denture acts like a socket. The retaining fixture snaps over the ball when the denture is seated and securely holds the denture in place.  These options are more affordable and if you currently have a denture, it can be adjusted to attach to implants without having to make a new denture.

What is the benefit?

Many individuals often worry that their dentures will not stay firmly in place or dentures often "float" within the mouth. For patients who are having difficulty with their dentures, implant retained dentures provide a more secure alternative that will help you eat and speak more confidently. This is most especially helpful for lower dentures. Another benefit is seen as the denture no longer slides on the gums.

Often a lower denture may only need two conventional implants to secure the denture completely in place. This may be a life-changing transformation for you. Another alternative to this utilizes four ‘mini’ implants. Minimal surgery is required, and in many cases your current denture can be attached to the implants immediately. In just 90 minutes of treatment, it is amazing to see the transformation Dr. Poulson can produce.
