Endodontics

Main Content

Endodontics is the dental specialty concerned with the study and treatment of the dental pulp and nerve of the tooth. Endodontists perform a variety of procedures including root canal therapy (endodontic therapy), endodontic retreatment, surgery, treating cracked teeth, and treating dental trauma. Root canal therapy is a very common procedure. If your dental pulp becomes infected, diseased or injured, endodontic treatment is required to save the tooth and limit other health issues.

In the most severe cases Dr. Poulson may refer you to a preferred endodontist for endodontic therapy.

Why Use An Endodontist?

If tooth decay is discovered and your pulp contains an infection too deep or complicated for Dr. Poulson to treat or other issues requiring a specialized dentist are present, an endodontist specializing in root canals and endodontic treatment may be recommended.

  • On average, endodontists perform nearly 25 root canal treatments a week. They specialize and focus nearly all their effort in endodontic treatment.
  • Most endodontists offer tremendous flexibility in accommodating emergency cases, so delays in treatment are kept to a minimum and patients can be relieved of dental pain quickly.
  • Endodontists use state-of-the-art technology such as operating microscopes, 3D digital imaging, ultrasonic instrumentation and fiber optics, to treat their patients quickly and comfortably.
